Adding Scoring to a Survey
If you’re making a quiz, test, or evaluation, consider scoring so that the score a respondent earns is calculated automatically.
To set up scoring for your survey, click Tools, and then click Scoring.
In the scoring editor, you’ll see every question in the survey. However, not every question type is compatible with scoring. Questions that work well are Multiple Choice, Matrix Table, and Text Entry.
To score a Multiple Choice or Matrix question, type the desired point value in the text box to the left of the answer option.
Note: You can have positive and negative values, so you could penalize respondents for giving incorrect selections. Click Auto to automatically score your choices in sequential order.
For Text Entry questions, type the correct answer in the space provided, and set a point value to be associated with that answer. Use the plus sign to add alternative spellings or other acceptable responses.
You don’t have to score every question in your survey; un-scored questions simply won’t contribute to the scoring metrics.
Using Multiple Categories
You can create different scoring categories to break an overall score into smaller categories. Each of these categories is summed into its own distinct field. To create a new category, click Scoring Options.
Click New Category and name the category.
You can create as many categories as you need. Once you have created the categories, click Save.
To set up scoring for a given category, select the category from the top of the scoring editor.
Note: You can score the same question differently in different categories.
Displaying Scores to a Respondent
To allow respondents to see their question answers and score for a particular scoring category, click Scoring Options, and then select At the End of the Surveyor After Each Question. Use the drop-down to determine which scoring category’s answers are displayed.
Note: This feature only allows you to display scores for one category. To display the score for multiple categories, you must create your own scoring report. To do so, click Back to Editor to return to your survey.
Create a Descriptive Text question where you want the scores to appear and click the Piped Text menu. From the Scoring option, click the category and the score metric.
Repeat for any other categories you want to display.
If you display scoring totals in the middle of your survey, only the score calculated up to that point is displayed. If you want to display the final score to each respondent, make sure this question appears at a point in your survey after all scored questions.
