This article explains the differences between Skip and Display Logic.

In this article:

  • Skip vs. Display Logic

Skip vs. Display Logic

Skip Logic and Display Logic solve problems in very different ways. For example, to jump over a question:

  • Use Skip Logic to skip it.
  • Use Display Logic to hide it.

If you’re jumping a respondent past a lot of questions, it may be easier to skiprather than hide so many questions with Display Logic.

  • Sources:
    • Skip Logic bases its conditions off the answer choices in the current question.
    • Display Logic bases its conditions off of any information collected previously in the survey, (previous answers, contact lists, Embedded Data, and so on).
  • Conditions:
    • With Skip Logic, only one condition determines whether the respondent is skipped ahead.
    • With Display Logic, you can compose complex sets of criteria enabling multiple conditions. For instance, “Only show this question if a participant is 16–25 years old and is Satisfied with the product”.
    • Actions:
      • With Skip Logic, you can add multiple actions to a single question. You can skip respondents to point A if they answer one way or to point B if they answer another way, and so on.
      • With Display Logic, the only action available is to hide the question if the respondent doesn’t meet your specified conditions.

Note: You can use Skip and Display Logic in combination. For example, you can skip participants to a question in a later Block and then use Display Logic to hide specific questions in the Block, customizing their experience even further.
